After two years as a Technical Officer in the RAF John studied Science at Cambridge University and completed his teaching qualification at Bristol University. He taught for 7 years in the UK before migrating to Australia to hold positions as Head of Science at Miami State High School and Yeronga SHS as well as Teaching Fellow at QUT and Lecturer at Brisbane CAE (now Griffiths University). He assisted in the development of a new junior science program, was Chair of the Board of Studies Physics syllabus committee, chaired the Review Panel for the trial schools and was the lead author of a successful program to encourage the inclusion of electronics in senior Physics.
In 1984 John was appointed as foundation Deputy Principal at Emmanuel College Gold Coast filling a number of roles until his retirement in 2001. In 1995 he initiated the formation of SCISCO (South Coast Industry, Schools and Community Organisation) Career Pathways and served as Secretary and Treasurer until 2009 by which time SCISCO provided services to 31 high schools. John served on the Board of Emmanuel College until 2008 and is currently a Board member of Arcadia College, a development of SCISCO’s program. John’s passion for Science and his deep felt sense of justice and equity for all, has found a perfect expression in his current role as Board Chair.
He has visited Mozambique on 4 occasions and has been instrumental in enhancing the Science facilities at the King of Kings School as well as introducing an annual Science seminar for our own teachers and Science teachers in government schools. Christine his wife, has supported John for 52 years and they have 4 adult children.
Dr King, Executive Director brings a depth of educational experience and expertise to Mission Educate. He is a widely respected educator and has been the founding principal of a Christian school in Sydney Australia for 12 years, served on the executive of a national school’s organisation and has been Chaplain of an independent Prep – Year 12 Christian school on the Gold Coast, Queensland for 12 years.
He has spoken at educational and leadership conferences in USA, UK, Australia and Mozambique. Dr Terry, as he is affectionately known in Mozambique has been involved withMission Educate for over 10 years, initially as a board member and as Executive Director since 2011.
He holds a Doctorate in Education from University of New England in Armidale NSW as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
His passion is to facilitate the provision of education founded on Christian values in developing nations as a means of releasing people from the cycle of poverty that has engulfed them for generations. He is married to Judy, has 2 children and 2 grand daughters
With a career spanning over 40 years, David began his professional life as a geologist, working with the mining industry in Western Australia for 4 years. He felt called to teach and has taught in Christian schools in Victoria, A.C.T and Queensland for 38 years. Since 1984, he has held executive roles in schools, including those of Assistant Principal and Principal. He joined the Mission Educate board in 2014 following his retirement in 2012 as Assistant Principal and Head of Senior School at Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast.
A widely respected educator, David brings a depth of educational expertise and experience to his role as Director of Educational Services. David and his wife Lyn, visited Mozambique as part of their long service leave in 2005. That visit ignited a compassion for the Mozambican people and a desire to bring hope to the children and youth of Mozambique.
Simon was born and has lived on the Gold Coast Qld all his life. A dedicated family man, he is married to Katie and has five beautiful children. He became a Christian when he was 12 years old and has served in the local church ever since then. He was a Youth Pastor for 15 years and is now an Associate Pastor at OurChurch Burleigh Heads. Simon owns and operates his own electrical business on the Gold Coast and is in great demand as an ethical and highly competent tradesman.
Simon brings a commitment to family values to the Board. He has a real heart and passion to help the people of Mozambique. He believes that we can change the future of Mozambique by helping this generation of precious children receive a great education and in doing so, give them hope for their future. Simon is committed to the work of Mission Educate because he believes that the children we impact with education today, will have the opportunity to become the leaders of Mozambique tomorrow.
Eddie grew up on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, and joined the Army at the culmination of his high school years. He studied Electronics, Administration and Exercise Planning. He met his wife, Lisa, in 1995 in the Australian capital of Canberra, they married in 1996 and they both established careers in the Public Service which spanned the following 17 years.
Eddie and Lisa, with their two teenage daughters, moved to the Gold Coast, Queensland, in 2013. Lisa continued her Public Service whilst Eddie branched out into new endeavours, attaining a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking and provided consultative and educational services in those fields. This added to his variety of administrative skills which include IT, Business Continuity and Governance.
Rod Newth has had a decade long relationship with Mission Educate through his work as Chaplain/teacher at Emmanuel College, Gold Coast. Advocating and engaging the school community with the work of Mission Educate, particularly the King of King’s School has been integral in developing this partnership. He is a popular and well-respected educator, leads the Chaplaincy program and Prep-2 Student Welfare in the Junior School. Prior to this he ran a successful interstate transport company driving b-double trucks and devising supply chain solutions for large multi-national companies. Rod holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from Griffith University and a Graduate Certificate in Business working towards a Master of Business Administration Degree through the University of Southern Queensland.He is been married to Tionie for nearly half of his life and has 2 beautiful daughters.
Natalie was born in a small town on the border between Mozambique and Zimbabwe. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Science and met her husband while they were both training with audit firms in Harare, Zimbabwe.
They moved to the UK for several years before finally settling with their family on the Gold Coast in Australia in 2013.
Having grown up in Africa, Natalie feels passionately about providing and education and opportunity to young people there.
With varied multinational accounting and auditing experience in Africa and Europe, she handles our financial and statutory obligations.
